"Shakespeare is the very Janus of poets; he wears almost everywhere two faces; and you have scarce begun to admire the one, ere you despise the other."
John Dryden

Lord Angelo, man of principle, cracks down on vice and licentiousness in Vienna, sentencing Claudio to death for immoral conduct. But before his edict can take effect, Angelo is consumed with an illicit desire for the sister of the accused. In a remarkable new adaptation, FSC exposes the two-faced nature of the law, and of those who would wield it.

"Nobody does it quite like Tim Crouch" (The Independent)

In 2002 FSC Artistic Associate Tim Crouch presented a staged reading of his first play, MY ARM, at the Franklin Stage Company. Since that auspicious day, Crouch's new works for the theatre have been seen all over the world, garnering the writer/performer innumerable awards, including a Herald Archangel Award, a Total Theatre Award, and a Fringe First at the Edinburgh Festival, an Obie in New York, the Best Male Actor Award at the Brighton Festival, a Prix Italia, and a Brian Way Award for Young People's Playwriting.

Come and see how it all started as Crouch performs the terrifying and brilliant MY ARM in repertory with his delightful family play, I, PEASEBLOSSOM (recommended age: 6 and up, or at parental discretion). After the great success of PINOCCHIO in 2007, we are delighted to include another family show this season.

Admission to our productions is free.
Reservations are strongly recommended.

GALILEO

Sunday matinees at 5pm

"Unhappy the land that needs heroes"

Told with biting humor and devastating irony, this reconstruction of the life of Italian astronomer Galileo, presented by FSC with live music and in collaboration with artist Simone Mantellassi, is one of Brecht's greatest plays.

"Is it so bad to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

Continuing our tradition of collaborating with visual artists, FSC is proud to be working with Simone Mantellassi on this production. Mantellassi was recently featured in the group show Beyond / In Western NY 2007 at the prestigious Albright-Knox Museum in Buffalo, NY. The unique mixture of satiric and tragic in Mantellassi's art, and his presence itself on stage, contribute to a provocative and boldly theatrical interpretation of the play. We are also delighted to include live, original music which will further enhance the fluidity of the storytelling.
