Chapel Hall

Help us Preserve Chapel Hall

Settled in 1792, Franklin is a small, beautiful village of Greek Revival, Federal, and Victorian houses, churches and stores, with lovely tree-lined streets. Virtually the entire village was, in 1984, inscribed in State and National Registers of Historic Places.

The Franklin Stage Company is committed to the preservation of Chapel Hall by the highest standards of historic preservation. Chapel Hall and the village deserve no less.

The establishment of a significant cultural institution in Franklin has begun to serve as a magnet for other creative and cultural activities, some of which have already utilized the space for public performances. The FSC has also shown that it can be instrumental in stimulating economic activity in the village of Franklin. About 100 people, from teenagers to the elderly, volunteer to work with us, including the Franklin Rotary who provide refreshments for the audience.

Though we have been fortunate to raise considerable sums for the maintenance and restoration of Chapel Hall, we are nowhere near to raising the necessary funding needed for the long term health of the building. Chapel Hall is a magnificent example of Greek Revival architecture. Its preservation will serve as a tribute, not only to the fine quality of the architectural and aesthetic traditions of pre-Civil War America, but also a testament to the high priority that education was given by the citizens of that time. The FSC is determined to nurture this priority, and, through our beloved medium of theatre, continue to serve as a unifying presence in Western Delaware County.
